CyberTech Engineering
CyberTech Engineering, founded in July 2016, is an independent Swiss ICT service provider and developer of the HumanOS® IoT platform, the solution for schools - ctSchool®, and cross-industry automation solutions. They serve customers and partners in Switzerland and abroad. Their well-coordinated team takes on complex requirements of the ICT and industrial sectors and skillfully uses their know-how and experience to find and implement solutions.
CyberTech Engineering’s customer (Frutigen School) has 10 school buildings and almost 1,000 students. One of the difficulties was the distance between the buildings that required centralized management and operation. Several locations had no Internet connection for school devices (notebooks and iPads) and had to be connected via 4G, which was costly and took a lot of time. Another task was the roll-out of devices at the beginning of a new semester after summer break and to ensure that Windows updates do not disturb classes through random automatic instalments.
CyberTech Engineering deployed QNAP NAS (TVS-882 , TVS-682 or TS-453B ) to run the virtual ctSchool® server, a manageable switch, and firewall in each school building. In each building a separate subnetwork was set up, consisting of VLANs for students, teachers, guests, printers, phones, and IT. The school buildings are connected to the main location via SSL VPN tunnel. The main location has a QNAP TES-1885U Enterprise Rackmount NAS which operates, next to providing storage, as a virtualization platform for the main infrastructure including ctSchool® admin and imaging server, Active Directory, print server and server for building automation.
The ctSchool® hardware and software solution greatly simplified the IT infrastructure deployment for Frutigen School. What used to take a lot of time and needed dedicated IT staff can now be done by teachers via the ctSchool® administrative console. In addition, as the entire infrastructure can now be centrally managed and administered, ICT services and support costs can be significantly reduced for the schools. The implemented security measures are also active when students use a private or public internet access with a school device. Therefore, data can be protected, and the corruption of devices by malware and or viruses reduced.
